R&D Services

Research, modeling, consulting and training from the Centre for Induction Technology.

Fluxtrol’s R&D services come from the Centre for Induction Technology (CIT): consulting on magnetic flux control, modeling and optimization, heat treating and melting research, emerging technology development, personal training and on-site support, all backed by a laboratory with 500 W to 50 kW supplies at 3 to 2000 kHz.

Welcome to Fluxtrol’s research and development services. Research and development is one of the core competencies of the Centre for Induction Technology (CIT). CIT’s R&D team offers a unique combination of practical and theoretical experience, coupled with creativity and openness to new ideas. Select a service below to learn more.

Our R&D services

  • Consulting covers energy efficiency, electromagnetic safety and the overall feasibility of potential induction applications.
  • Heat treating and melting is a traditional research area at CIT: coupled electromagnetic and thermal phenomena during induction heating of steels and other materials, simulation methods, material properties and laboratory tests of new processes.
  • Emerging technologies. The R&D and Engineering groups develop new processes cooperatively with leading companies in food packaging, crystal growth, cold crucible melting, welding carbon fiber composites and more, including a long-term collaboration with Tetra Pak.
  • Modeling and optimization uses Flux 2D/3D and Elta 6.0, coupled with other packages for stress and deformation.
  • On-site support brings Fluxtrol’s experts to your site once coils or installation components have been produced.
  • Personal training is organized by CIT at the Fluxtrol facility, with lectures on theory and simulation and practical training in coil design and manufacturing, magnetic controller installation and process setup.

Magnetic flux control and modeling at the core

The main cornerstones of our R&D are a deep understanding of induction heating and related phenomena, the use of the idea of magnetic flux control , and computer modeling. Theoretical studies and the practical experience of the Fluxtrol team show how important magnetic flux control is. The robot arm moving a hairpin coil with and without a concentrator has become a classic demonstration, described in the induction coils workflow .

Laboratory and partners

To prove new concepts, we use a well-equipped laboratory with electrical, magnetic and thermal instrumentation and induction heating power supplies from 500 W to 50 kW at 3 to 2000 kHz. CIT has a long history of partnering with R&D groups from universities, start-up companies and large multinational corporations to explore and develop new technologies and components. That lets us resolve complex problems in traditional heat treating and melting, and in emerging and innovative technologies such as liquid food packaging, biomedical, aerospace and oil and gas.
